“In private hospitals, the cost of transplant Allogeneic PBSCT ranges from RM200,000 to RM250,000. Through Tabung Bantuan Perubatan, the Ministry of Health is subsidising HSCT done in University hospitals at RM 40,000-RM 60,000 per transplant. “

Allogeneic PBSCT means peripheral blood stem cell transplantation using blood stem cells from another person. PBSCT is commonly used to replenish blood stem cells in patients whose blood cells have been mostly killed during chemotherapy.

As you can see from the report or statement, the cost of stem cell therapy is extremely expensive. The high cost of stem cell therapy is certainly beyond the financial ability of ordinary citizens. Even with subsidization from the Government, the cost of stem cell therapy is still far beyond normal affordability.

    If live cell therapy is organ or tissue specific, not animal or specie specific, then why do people stress on sheep or deer origin? What is the difference? Or is the sheep genome closer to human genome as claimed by one double doctorate fellow?

      I believe the sheep genome is closer to human genome. However, the deer genome is still close enough to be effective. The best option would be human genome but there are too many ethical issues involved. Having said that, it is fair to say that both sheep and deer placenta have been used in live cell therapy.
